Onion Vegetables
Onions and garlic are among the oldest known vegetables. The Sumerians used onions as far back as 5,000 years ago, and they were commonly found in ancient Egypt, where they were a valuable part of the diet of the workers who built the pyramids. Garlic, too, was already being used in cooking 4,000 years ago. The onion is an important vegetable used in the preparation of a wide variety of dishes. Its uses are so versatile that there isn’t a cookbook that doesn’t know what to do with it. The onion is literally the queen of the kitchen!
